Wire Crochet Cross Pendant Pattern - Why I Released This ISK Design Now

Wire Crochet Cross Pendant Pattern – An Advanced ISK Jewelry Design

I couldn’t think of a better time of year to release this pattern than now, just before Christmas. And, as often happens with me, it wasn’t carefully planned - it simply happened.

This wire crochet cross pendant pattern is designed for experienced makers who enjoy advanced ISK jewelry techniques and creating meaningful, statement pieces by hand.

I designed this piece several years ago and have been making it occasionally as a custom order. Most often, it was requested as a gift for a wife, partner, or someone special. A few days ago, when the same pendant was ordered again, something clicked. It suddenly felt like the right moment to finally turn this design into a pattern. Maybe if it weren’t Christmas, I wouldn’t have done it - but the timing felt right.

That said, I should be upfront: this is a challenging design.
It’s probably the reason I hesitated for so long before publishing it as a pattern. Still, I know many of you enjoy exactly this kind of challenge - understanding structure, following a complex sequence, and letting a sculptural form slowly emerge stitch by stitch.

Advanced Wire Crochet Cross Pendant Pattern Using ISK

This is an advanced wire crochet PDF pattern based on the ISK (Invisible Slip Knot) technique. Due to the complexity of the construction, the written instructions are provided as a partial pattern, accompanied by a very detailed, step-by-step video tutorial. The video is essential and is designed to be used together with the written pattern.

The instructions are intended for crafters already familiar with the ISK workflow. If you are new to ISK wire crochet, I strongly recommend starting with the ISK Wire Crochet Book, which introduces the technique and its logic in depth.

An important detail worth mentioning:
Alongside the traditional cross pendant, the instructions also include a variation for crocheting an X-shaped pendant. This option is ideal for makers who love the graphic structure of the design but prefer a non-religious interpretation.

Skill Level and Time Investment

  • Skill level: Advanced

  • Preparation time: Approximately 1 hour

Stitches You Need to Know

To follow this pattern comfortably, you should already be familiar with:

  • Regular ISK stitch

  • Reduced ISK stitches

  • Flat stitch

Materials and Tools

  • Stainless steel crochet hook: 0.75 mm or 1 mm

  • Copper wire, 28 gauge (0.3 mm)

  • Wire cutter

  • S ISK starter (12 gates)

  • Chain

  • Two flat-nose pliers

  • Pearl (optional, for decoration)

Looking for an Easier Cross Design?

If this advanced wire crochet cross pendant pattern feels like a bit too much of a challenge, and you’re still looking for a cross-themed project, you may want to take a look at the Wire Crochet Cross Ring Pattern instead. It’s much easier to follow, and the result is beautiful in a quieter, more straightforward way.

This wire crochet cross pendant pattern is ideal for experienced makers looking to create sculptural, meaningful jewelry using the ISK technique. Whether you choose the classic cross or the X pendant variation, this project offers a thoughtful, challenging, and deeply satisfying DIY wire crochet experience.

If you make this piece or have questions along the way, feel free to reach out — I’m always happy to hear from fellow wire crochet makers.

Love,

Yoola
